sand

The low-key intensity of Dan's images sneaks up on you, and before you know it, fill you with astonishment! It's like being transported to another time, or perhaps outside of time? I feel the salty wind of the Dead Sea, the dry smell of a land without trees. The great spaces are so full of presence and so inexorably inescapable in this vast landscape, that it takes my breath away. The clear, great sky and its burning white sun.

Dan Isaac Wallin's images of the desert capture a landscape in constant but almost imperceptible flux, layer upon layer of that which is — and that which is not. Of what is left and what is missing. There is a resonance present in Wallin’s work. The patience, the responsiveness, the persistence.

Images of eroding rock formations and sand — sometimes with blackened holes, sometimes faded almost to the point of obliteration — like a fading whisper in the sand... as if what we see is visible only as long as we manage to keep our eyes open and memorize the shapes. Is it the wind that piles the dunes around the rocks until they are obscured and transformed, or is it time that gnaws on the mountains until they are hidden under their own deposits?

MICA AND BILLIE

When I met Mica and Billie, it was love at first sight. These two adopted street dogs belong to our close friends and neighbors in Mexico. They came to be my guides and companions during daily walks along the empty beaches and rugged cli s. Together we explored and pondered a landscape that was in a constant state of change from the mighty waves rolling in from the Pacific Ocean.

These fluctuations in a landscape have always fascinated me; how nature has the ability to sustain a deep stillness amidst the continuous change.

Mica and Billie played and explored while I took pictures, and sometimes we sat peacefully together on a cli , observing the magni cent desert to the back and the in nite sea ahead: On the path we saw a rattlesnake resting; in the air, the frigate birds soared; in the sea a majestic whale swam by.

All photos were taken in Baja California Sur, Mexico, between 2016 and 2018.

pacifico

The slowly shifting scenarios in a landscape have always fascinated me: it is pure meditation to be outdoors, remaining in the same place, simply focusing for long periods of time on the horizon and scenery. Our sight is fixed but the view is constantly changing. I love that feeling and try to translate it into photography.

The photos in this book were all taken in Baja California Sur, Mexico, from the same mountain peak. I hiked up with my camera and Polaroid films to watch the mighty Pacific Ocean and photograph it daily for a couple of months between 2016 and 2018. Early in the morning, at midday or sunset. The sea oscillating from calm and gleaming to dark and roaring. No one day was like another.

My Pacifico pictures reflect the human need for silence and contemplation. A state of mind where the flashing impressions and stresses of everyday life are far away. What remains are our original values, roots and tranquility. What could be more elementary than the ocean, the mountains and the earth?

Irrblosset & lindanserskan

(Will-o' the-wisp and line dancer)
The feeling of being enclosed within oneself, not being able to reach out to the environment or to get out of oneself with such force that it explodes. These are usual conditions at Tobias' Farm. But behind all the frustration is the joy and laughter that so often pop up. Sometimes it has felt like seeking contact with the unconnectable, even though there has been very good communication only one has had the patience. Getting to meet these amazing people has been very rewarding. Memories that I will always carry with me. Moments of joy and moments of chaos. You have taught me so much. The pictures in this book are from 2003-2005.

All text in the book is in Swedish.
